SYNOPSIS
Twenty years after the end of the war in Syria, Leila makes the surprising decision to leave behind her life in Vienna. She ends up in Beirut, hoping to return to her native Damascus. Between here and elsewhere, Leila’s sudden decision is greeted with concern by both victors and vanquished, family and friends, who see in her the danger that they might be plunged back into their silent memories.
COMA, her first feature length documentary produced in 2015 was granted the Regard Neuf Award for the Best First Feature Film at Visions du Réel 2015, and the FIPRESCI Award at the Viennale 2015 and has been screened in many festivals such as MoMa’s Doc Fortnight 2016, Berlin Critics’s Week 2016, São Paolo 2016.
Her most recent film CHAOS (2018) was awarded the Pardo d’oro of Cineasti del presente for the Best Film at 71st Locarno, the Extra-VALUE Film Award at the Viennale 2018, the Altered States Award at the Mar del Plata Festival 2018 and some other awards and was awarded the Best Feature Film at Diagonale 2019, it has been selected to be screened at many international festivals such as IDFA 2018 and MoMa’s Doc Fortnight 2019.
