FreibeuterFilm was founded in 2008 in Vienna as a platform for director driven fiction and documentary films for national and international market, focused on theatrical release. We collaborate with both established directors and new talents to reach a wide audience.
Under this banner more than 25 internationally acclaimed films have been produced, the majority of which have been presented at A-list festivals including Cannes, Venice, and Berlin. Among their productions are MACONDO (Berlinale Competition), JOY (Winner London BFI Best Film), MEINE KEINE FAMILIE (Winner London BFI Best Doc), HIGH PERFORMANCE (Max Ophuls Audience Award), STILLE RESERVEN (Zurich Golden Eye Best Film), HINTERLAND (Locarno, Prix du Public UBS, Piazza Grande), GROSSE FREIHEIT (Un Certain Regard Cannes, Prix du Jury, Oscar Shortlisted), and THE VILLAGE NEXT TO PARADISE (Cannes Un Certain Regard).
