Joy Alphonsus, was awarded the Prize for the best Actress for her role in Sudabeh Mortezai’s feature film JOY at the Sevilla International Film Festival. Congratulations! Jury statement: “Although not a professional actress, Joy Alphonsus carries the film through her captivating, open, honest, intelligent and authentic performance. She plays a human trafficked sex worker in Austria trying to escape from third-world poverty. She struggles through the indignity of circumstance with a focus on achieving a life of dignity and personal freedom – despite the odds.”

JOY won the Wr. Filmpreis at the Viennale 2018! Jury statement in German: “Die Wiener Regisseurin Sudabeh Mortezai erzählt direkt und ungeschönt die Geschichte der Nigerianerin Joy, die in Wien als Prostituierte im System von Frauenhandel und sexueller Ausbeutung ums Überleben kämpft.
